KDHE issues emergency order closing Paola day-care

PAOLA — The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has issued an emergency order closing a Paola day-care center. The KDHE announced Tuesday night the agency was suspending Kathies Kidz Day Care Home, 305 E. Kaskaskia, Paola. Two infants died at the day-care this year, the KDHE said. The operator of the day-care agreed to surrender the facility’s certificate in August after the second infant died, the KDHE said. At that time, the day-care had 16 children, which was 10 more than it was allowed, the agency said. KDHE inspectors checked the facility this month and found it was still open and was caring for six children.
