KU Students Say Sexual Assault Not a Priority For Administration

Posted in Uncategorized by kofonews on September 19, 2014

LAWRENCE – University of Kansas administration is getting a thumbs down from students over how it has handled sexual assault cases. KMBC-TV reports K.U. is now the subject of a federal investigation into its handling of a rape case last October in which Douglas County did not file charges and the university allowed the accused student to remain on campus, despite reports he admitted to doing it. The university chancellor says those who investigate sexual assault cases have the best interests of the school and the community, but some students say plagiarism is a much bigger priority for administrators. Last year, K.U. investigated 397 cases of plagiarism and expelled two students. The school looked into 12 complaints of sexual violence and expelled six students. From 2002 to 2012, there were 10 rape cases reported to campus police.
