City OKs Community Improvement District idea

OTTAWA — The city of Ottawa has a new tool it hopes to use to bring in more businesses to the downtown.   The city staff has been working on the idea for some time, Wynndee Lee, city planning and codes director, told city commissioners Wednesday night.  A Community Improvement District, or a CID, can be used for a specific business or even larger projects, Lee said.  A new state law allows the city to levy up to a 2 percent sales tax within a CID to finance improvements.  Commissioners approved the proposal.
