Conservation District cost-share application period open
OTTAWA – The Franklin County Conservation District is now taking applications for cost-share money for a variety of fall soil and water conservation projects. The deadline is Feb. 27. The projects can include terraces, waterways, brush control, septic system upgrades, water well plugging, interior cross fence, and pasture and hay seeding, conservation district executive director Keri Harris said. Funds will not be available until sometime after July 1, she said. The conservation district doesn’t how much to expect for the cost share program because of state budget problems, she said. Staff will be able to make field visits as winter comes to an end and before spring planting to get a good look at the needs for each project, , she said. Applications will be ranked on water and soil quality benefits, rather than when they’re submitted.
