Miami County ‘Circles’ meeting is Friday morning

SPRING HILL — The next coalition meeting for Miami County Circles will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Hillside Community Lutheran Church in Spring Hill. Circles is the new Project 17 anti-poverty program under development throughout southeast Kansas. Miami County is part of the Project 17 area. Franklin County, which is also part of Project 17, has also been spooling up a Circles program. Project 17’s Heather Morgan said circles doesn’t duplicate existing anti-poverty efforts; aims to create job and social networks for the poor in the program, as well as find new ways to think about fighting poverty. The overall goal is to reduce childhood poverty in Miami County by 10 percent over the next 10 years, she said.. The group is looking for volunteers.
