School board primary election ends with one tie

Posted in Uncategorized by kofonews on March 4, 2015

OTTAWA — Tuesday’s primary election didn’t entirely resolve the matter. In the case of the West Franklin school board at-large Position 7, there was a dead-heat for who would be the second person on the April general election ballot. In West Franklin, Rusty Ecord was the top vote-getter with 175 votes and will be on the April general election ballot.  However, for the other spot on the April ballot, Sherry Fritz-Harris and Bruce Rockhold tied with 111 votes each. The tie will settled at the final vote canvass by county commissioners, which will be Monday morning, Franklin County Clerk Janet Paddock said.  There are a few provisional votes to be decided by commissioners, she said.  If that doesn’t break the tie, commissioners will follow state law, which calls for a coin flip to decide the race, she said.  Of the other candidates in the race, Gene Hirt had 85 votes and Perrie Swank had 47. In the Central Heights school board Position 1 race, Lorri Cotter and Patty Medina were the two top vote-getters. Cotter had 27 votes and Medina 20.  Of the other candidates in the race, Nikki Peine had 6 votes and Jerry Lynn Haynes had 2.
