Hearing on renewable fuel rule Thursday in KCK

KANSAS CITY — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will hold a national public hearing in Kansas City, Kan., to receive comments on the agency’s controversial proposed new rule for the Renewable Fuel Standard Program for the next two years and Biomass-Based Diesel for 2017.  The hearing will begin 9 a.m. Thursday at the Jack Reardon Center.  The EPA said the hearing will continue until all those who wish to speak have had an opportunity to do so.  Because of the large number of people who will likely want to speak, the EPA will hold the hearing in two separate rooms simultaneously.  Written comments will be accepted through July 27.  The proposed standards can be examined on the EPA’s web site at http://www.epa.gov.   The proposal has been criticized because it cuts the requirements for the use of renewable fuels this year.
