OTTAWA — Two Johnson County men escaped injury when their plane was forced to make an emergency landing because of ice in a field southwest of Ottawa during Monday’s storm.  Robert Fenton, 67, Olathe, forced to make an emergency landing in a field near Labette Road and Louisiana Road, the Kansas Highway Patrol said.

Franklin County Undersheriff Rick Geist was on scene

Fenton and his passenger, Ronald Davis, 68, Lenexa, weren’t injured.  The highway patrol said the owner will remove the plane from the field.  The unscheduled landing was one of a series of road emergencies handled by deputies and troopers, Geist said.  Several semi-trucks slid off the road on I-35 at the hill near Williamsburg, briefly forced a closure of the interstate, he said.
