City seeks to install jet fuel unit at airport

OTTAWA — A new jet fuel pump station will soon be set up at the Ottawa Municipal Airport.  The new pump station will provide easy access for the business jets that land at the airport but must get fuel elsewhere, said public works director Michael Haeffele said.  He said he’s looking at a stand-alone unit.  “All we have to build a concrete pad and they bring it in on a truck and slide if off the truck and put the concrete pad,” he said. “We hook the electricity to it … the above-ground storage tanks are far cheaper than underground tanks.”  The new station will cost around $85,000 but 85 percent will be paid for with a grant from the Kansas Dept. of Transportation.  The city commission is expected to officially approve the fuel station at its regular meeting Wednesday.
