911 center could switch offices

OTTAWA — The county’s 911 emergency dispatch center could be switched from the sheriff’s department to the emergency management office. The move has been under discussion for a few weeks, county administrator Jon Holmes said. The change is being considered because new federal rules could require the 911 center and the county’s radio network to be combined, he said. There would be no change in the number of personnel, he said. He said once commissioners decide, it would be a matter of a few weeks to make the change. Sheriff Jeff Richards, who doesn’t object to the switch, said several other counties have done something similar. The center’s location wouldn’t be moved anytime in the future, said emergency manager Alan Radcliffe.
