Uncle of man killed in hit-and-run dies from crash

GARNETT — A Welda man died at a Kansas City-area hospital Monday morning as a result of a crash last week near Greeley that occurred as he was headed to a fund-raiser for his nephew who was recently killed in a hit-and-run incident west of Garnett. The Anderson County Review reported that Troy McDaniel, 51, had been sedated and on a ventilator in an attempt to stabilize his breathing following the crash. McDaniel was driving south-bound on U.S. 169 about two miles north of Greeley around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday as he was headed home from work in Olathe when he lost control of his pickup. He lost control of the truck, which went off the road, then overturned when it came back onto the roadway. He was thrown out. He and overturned into both lanes of traffic. He was taken by helicopter ambulance to Overland Park Regional Medical Center. His family told the Review that McDaniel was enroute to a fundraiser at Garnett Pizza Hut for the family of his nephew, Clay Yoder, 22, Mont Ida, who was killed in a hit-and-run incident west of Garnett on June 11. McDaniel is the brother of Rebecca Yoder, whose son is Clay Yoder. Two people have been charged in Yoder’s death.
